Write Title Tags That People Want to Click

Your title tag is like your storefront sign - it's often the first thing people see in search results. A compelling title tag can double your click-through rate, bringing more visitors without spending a penny on ads. Keep it under 60 characters and include your main keyword naturally. Instead of "Services - ABC Plumbing" try "Affordable Plumbing Services in Brighton | ABC Plumbing."

Spent hours building your website but getting crickets from Google? You're not alone, and the fix is easier than you think.

I am back on that SEO steam train and this time I am here to give you the best tips to improve your on page SEO - perfect if you are a complete beginner!

If you've been following me for a while, you've probably heard me bang on about the fact that SEO is really important (because it helps potential new customers to find you), but where do you even start?

The good news is that you don't need to be a tech wizard to improve your website's search rankings. Here are five simple on-page SEO tweaks you can implement straight away - and most importantly, you'll typically start seeing improvements within 4-8 weeks!

Don't Forget Your Meta Descriptions

Think of meta descriptions as your elevator pitch in search results. While they don't directly boost your rankings, they're crucial for getting people to actually click on your listing. You have about 155 characters to convince someone to click on your site. Include your keyword and a clear benefit. "Get same-day plumbing repairs from licensed professionals. Serving Brighton for 15+ years. Call now for free estimates!"

Use Headers to Break Up Your Content

Search engines love organised content, and so do your readers. This simple structure helps Google understand your page better, which can improve your rankings significantly. Use H1 for your main title, H2 for major sections, and H3 for subsections. This makes your content scannable and helps Google understand what your page is about.

Optimise Your Images

Large images slow down your site, and slow sites rank poorly - Google actually penalises sites that take more than 3 seconds to load. Compress your images before uploading and always add alt text that describes what's in the image. This helps visually impaired users and gives search engines context about your content.

Internal Linking Is Your Friend

Link to other relevant pages on your website within your content. This keeps visitors on your site longer (reducing bounce rate) and helps search engines understand your site structure - both ranking factors that can boost your visibility. When writing about "common plumbing problems," link those exact words to your detailed services page. If you mention "our team" in a blog post, link to your about page.

The bottom line:

SEO is about creating a better experience for your visitors. Start with these basics, and you'll be surprised how much of a difference they make. Remember, consistency is key - implementing these changes across your entire site will have a much bigger impact than perfecting just one page.
